Humanist and Civil Funerals
For families and individuals who have not had much contact with religion in their lives, it may be more appropriate to consider a non-religious funeral service and burial/cremation, conducted by a civil, independent or humanist celebrant.
In a humanist ceremony, you will not find any references to religion and the emphasis will be on the human experience of death. A civil, humanist, or independent service will be led by the wishes of the family and can include a religious element if so desired.
Often, a humanist or civil ceremony is held at a crematorium offering families the opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one exactly as they wish. You can incorporate readings and music, with the site’s permission. The crematorium also provides the technical capabilities to deliver audio-visual tributes and webcast the entire service to people that cannot be present on the day. This service has become increasingly popular with Covid restrictions and families living internationally.
It is also possible to arrange a natural burial and other service sites are available.
